Ted Stevens, the former United States senator who was killed Monday night in a plane crash at the age of 86, helped shape modern Alaska with federal laws and billions in federal dollars.
Serving in the Senate for 40 years, longer than any other Republican, he was known as a fierce and often hot-tempered advocate for his state.
But that long and productive Senate career ended ignominiously. In October 2008, a federal jury in the District of Columbia found that Mr. Stevens had concealed more than $250,000 in gifts and convicted him on seven felony counts. Eight days later, he lost a bid for a seventh term to Mayor Mark Begich of Anchorage, a Democrat.

Steve Yzerman Tampa Bay
Hall of Famer Steve Yzerman is the Tampa Bay Lightning's new general manager, taking on the task to rebuilding a franchise that's fallen on hard times since winning its only Stanley Cup championship six years ago.
The former Detroit Red Wings captain and executive was introduced Tuesday as Brian Lawton's replacement during a press conference at St. Pete Times Forum. Lawton and coach Rick Tocchet were fired April 12.
Yzerman has worked as a vice president for the Red Wings, the only team he played for during a 22-year career in which he scored 692 goals, amassed 1,755 points and was part of three Stanley Cup winners.
The 45-year-old recently led Canada to men's Olympic hockey gold as Hockey Canada executive director at the Vancouver Games.

2010 French Open Tennis
2010 French Open Tennis. Day Two - Monday 24th May
The second day of the 2010 French Open will see three of the tournament's stars make their first appearances at the tournament.
Andy Murray faces a tough first-round test when he takes on local player, Richard Gasquet, in his opening match of the 2010 French Open. A five setter isn't the best way to start this tournament, so Murray will be hoping to put his opponent away in short shrift.
Roger Federer is also in the picture as he takes on Richard Luczak in his first game of the tournament, and Serena Williams will also be opening her French Open account as she takes on Stephanie Vogele.

Jose Lima never looked back
Jose Lima never looked back, When did Jose Lima become a must-watch attraction? As soon as you met him.
For me, it was 1994, when Lima was an effervescent (of course) 21-year-old who recently had pitched a no-hitter for Detroit's Class AAA farm team in Toledo, Ohio.
The story was supposed to be about this kid who came within one walk of a perfect game, then stayed on the field for 45 minutes signing autographs, finally showered and signed another couple hundred after leaving the clubhouse.
"These people cheer for me," he told me. "I could never say no."
Lima, it seemed, could never say nothing. Source

Champions league final
Bukidnon / Champions league final.2200: Mourinho at Real Madrid? Could be fun... But as the Special One perhaps waves goodbye, I definitely say farewell. Thanks as always for your messages today. It's been emotional. Well done Blackpool and Inter Milan. Bet they don't get congratulated in the same sentence too often. See you soon.
2156: We're all looking at the reaction of one man though... Jose Mourinho hasn't chucked his medal into the crowd (yet), but he appears to be walking towards the tunnel... no, he's off to get a Portugal flag... He is now waving fondly at the Inter fans, as he clutches the match ball. Is this goodbye? Who knows? I just hope he tells us soon.
2154: Bit of a muddle this presentation in all fairness... But eventually Michel Platini comes down the steps and hands Javier Zanetti the trophy and the look on the Inter captain's face is priceless as he lifts it - unbridled joy, disbelief...
2151: Inter president Massimo Moratti will lead his club up the steps. Jose Mourinho is getting upset over someone not doing quite what he wanted them to do. Tears from some Inter fans there... Many of them won't remember the last time their team..

First Image Made of an Atom Spinning
First Image Made of an Atom Spinning. Physicists have discovered a way to play with matter on a subatomic scale, reaching into atoms to manipulate the spin of electrons. What's more, the scientists were able to capture the first images of the action with a special microscope.
Spin is one of three basic properties of electrons, along with charge and mass. Basically, spin describes the way an electron moves around an atom's nucleus (which includes the protons and neutrons) - the spin can either be "up" or "down."
In the new study, researchers figured out how to change the spin of electrons in cobalt atoms (a metallic element with 27 protons and 27 electrons). They used a custom-built microscope with a minute iron-coated tip to "see" the atoms and create the first images of electron spin being manipulated. Via AP/

Visit President Obama to Billy Graham

No pool coverage of today's visit by President Obama to Billy Graham, just White House statements about the meeting first arranged when Obama called Graham in November to wish him a happy 91st birthday.
"The president had a private prayer and conversation with Rev. Graham," said White House spokesman Bill Burton. "He is extraordinarily gratified that he took the time to meet with him."
White House spiritual adviser Josh DuBois also attended the session in Graham's mountaintop cabin in Montreat, N.C.
